Shawn Marion and Andre Kirilenko both want trades. The only thing that makes sense is if both teams trade them for each other.
So Shawn Marion wants out of Phoenix. I mean who can blame the guy? He plays on a championship-caliber team with the league's best point guard. It's a rough life he's been forced to live. The same goes for Andre Kirilenko in Utah. After an uninspired season, he still has a place on the floor with one of the league's up-and-coming point guards following a Western Conference Championship run with over $60 million to be paid to him in the next four years. How does he get up and face life every morning?
But when you really look at it, are either of these players as good as they think they are? Marion has spent the past couple years on the receiving end of Steve Nash. Kirilenko just wrapped up the Euro-league championship trophy and an MVP award, but compared to NBA play, is that anything to brag about? Both of these guys should be happy right where they are and heading into training camp on the verge of new runs at the title. Instead, they are both screaming trade.
Really, the only sensible option is to trade them for each other.
Kirilenko would fit right in to Phoenix's run-and-gun style of play. He feels his offensive skills have been hampered by Jerry Sloan's overbearing-mother style of coaching. He also brings a defensive threat that Phoenix has been lacking as an offensive-heavy team.
Marrion needs a strong point guard to make him an offensive threat. While Deron Williams is no Steve Nash (yet), he plays the point as true as any other player out there. Marrion also brings with him strong defensive and rebounding skills, which will be sorely missed by a departure by Kirilenko.
When you look at the big picture, it's really the only way it works for either team. Get bad blood out of the locker room and create a championship chemistry. Insert the player who possesses the skills your team has been lacking. Of course, both players could be making the mistake of their careers and be crying for home at the end of the upcoming season. Or they could be battling each other in the Western Conference Finals. Either way, nobody will be surprised.
