Tar Heels year? 2007/11/08 00:22 Karma: 0
Although I have not ranked UNC number as my number one there are good odds of at least a Final Four. The Heels have Tyler Hansbrough and Brandan Wright on their team, and their last season record, an amazing 31-7. It may not be an upset for North Carolina to go all the way, in fact it is a likely hood. The tournament gets hectic so determining an early winner is quite impossible; I feel I have my prediction though. The Heels have found their year and in my opinion the Florida era has just ended.

Even with my pick as UNC don't forget UCLA as a favorite as well.

Well, you're right about Florida. It will take Donovan a bit of time to bring the program back, but that is normal, cyclical.

The 'Heels will be tough. I'd expect a strong run with Tyler anchoring the paint as usual. What other pieces do they have other than Wright and Hansbrough?

I think it'll be nice to see a different school, other than Florida, win a National Championship this year. North Carolina has to be the favorite thus far I think because of Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, Danny Green and Wayne Ellington. Brandan Wright, however, is not a Tar Heel anymore. He was drafted 8th overall last year by the Charlotte Bobcats and traded to the Warriors on draft day. Through 5 games he's logged 4 minutes, missed one shot and grabbed one rebound. Maybe shoulda stayed in school huh, Brandan?

Seriously though, he probably should have taken a cue from Marvin Williams struggles. Then again if you're gonna be a top 10 pick and make millions of dollars it's hard to durn down the opportunity. UNC should be improved this year, even with the loss of Wright. They're an extremely young team, with only two seniors on the roster. As they mature together and get a feel of themselves this year, they should be very tough to beat. The ACC is always tough, but so far the Tar Heels have to be considered the class of the Conference and the Nation.

UNC is definitely going to be good but you are forgetting one of the primary reasons for their probable final four run. Point guard Ty Lawson is going to be one of the best point guards in the nation this year. I saw him play live when UNC came down and destroyed Arizona last year and he gets down the court like Seabiscuit I never have seen anyone dribbled as fast as him. They also have the sharpshooter Wayne Ellington (anytime I hear his name I think of Jazz music). If you look at Ellington's stats from last year, you will probably be disappointed but trust me he is legit. There are going to be so many times this year that Lawson is going to drive it and then kick it out to Ellington on the wing. They also have alot of solid upperclassmen in Ginyard, Frasor, Green, and of course Hansbrough. In the end, I thnk that Hansbrough will have a very solid year but Lawson will be their most valuable player. I can't say how far they are going to go being I haven't seen them played.

P.S.: I think that Brandan Wright is a Warrior.

It would be an upset at this point if UNC doesn't make it to the Final 4 at the very least, in my opinion. As long as Lawson is available down the stretch run of the season they will win the ACC and their regional (especially if they are placed in the East).
