Billy Gillispie shooting star? 2007/10/14 14:02 Karma: 0
I guess I was just curious, there is a lot of hype around Gillispie and KU. I took a look at his record over the past couple of years.

2006–2007 Texas A&M 27-7
2005–2006 Texas A&M 22-9
2004–2005 Texas A&M 21-10
2003–2004 UTEP 24-8

This really does show a great pattern. He kind of reminds me of Howland developed a great record going back to Northern Arizona.

Let's see what he can do

With his track record, and a proven program like Kentucky, it seems like the sky is the limit. SEC beware, the Gillespie ERA has begun. Unfortunately for him, Billy D decided to stay at Florida and keep the conference competitive. It will be an interesting transiton year for both programs, but I expect big things from both in the very near future

Last year, I became a big fan of Billy Gillispie with Acie Law IV and Kavailsukas. They were exciting team to watch with Law making those clutch shots especially that double overtime thriller against Texas. They were also a sweet team to play with in College Hoops 2k7 with a no name player (I think his name was James Jones) thst could just drain threes plus Law IV. I think that Kentucky definitely made the correct hire in Gillespie. He was the biggest up and comer in the coaching ranks. Kentucky will not be a great team this year with a preseason ranking of 22. If Ashley Judd has some patience, then Billy will get this program back to the top ten in a couple of years. Last April, I was hoping that A&M would retain Gilliespie for the next two years and then he would be hired by the Wildcats (the Arizona kind) to replace the retiring Lute Olsen but it appears that Kevin O'Neill will be this guy. In the end, I see Kentucky that falls in and out of the rankings during the whole year and gets a 6 seed in the dance and falls to a mid major in the first round. The SEC is down this year with Florida losing their top 6 so Kentucky has a possiblity of finishing 2nd behind Tennessee.

I like the way you think....Gillespie to Arizona. Well, like you said, too late.
With O'Neill now at the helm, who knows what is in Arizona's future. I thought they would get Steve Kerr.
